The basis of the impeccable appearance of a domestic dog is clean and well-groomed wool.
In the process of caring for a pet’s pet, one should not be limited to – as many novice dog breeders mistakenly think – only one comb for dogs.
Each dog owner should have their own set of combs, differing in shape and size of teeth, which can be used for different purposes: combing the top layer of wool, tail, pet undercoat.
Next, we briefly describe several types of tools for combing (combing) dogs:
- comb for dogs;
- collar cutter;
- massage brush.
Each of these tools is applicable to specific situations related to the care of a dog’s coat.
Comb for dogs
The choice of comb for a dog is directly affected by the length of its coat. For short-haired breeds suitable combs with small teeth, for long-haired – with long.
Within the same length of the teeth of the comb should choose different options with more rare and more frequent arrangement of teeth.
If the teeth on the comb are relatively rarely located, the first comb can be performed with this comb.

For more “thin” combing you will need a comb with a dense arrangement of teeth.
In practice, comfortably proven combs with variable length teeth (alternating through one long and short teeth).
They are great for combing areas of felted wool.
The teeth should be placed on the same side of the comb.
It is preferable to use metal combs with a rubberized or wooden handle. Combs without handles are less convenient and less practical.
Plastic combs will electrify, making it harder to comb or brush the dog.
A dog comb should be tough enough not to bend or break.
Koltunorezy and pooderki
For medium- and long-haired breeds, collar cutters are used as an aid to grooming.

These are sharp instruments, like a scalpel, so you need to handle them with extreme caution.
For combing the undercoat, it is convenient to use a puhoherka – a type of comb with many small teeth (usually metal) located on a rectangular base made of polymeric or natural materials.
Punkherk teeth should have a moderate degree of rigidity to prevent injury to the dog, and should not be equipped with plastic balls at the ends.
Massage brushes for dogs
Massage brushes are often used for combing medium and short-haired dogs.

The procedure of combing in this case performs a dual function: combing and massage.
And the one and the other gives the animal a lot of pleasure.
There are no special recommendations for choosing a massage brush for dogs. Here, everything is determined by the personal preferences of pet owners and the ease of use of this or that tool.
With the help of standard tools for combing and combing dogs you can perform almost all the procedures associated with caring for a dog.
To solve specific problems, you may need special tools.

Among the special tools for caring for dogs is, in particular, the “comb-rake”, intended for combing coarse and tough wool.
There are special comb for mustache. Their size is smaller than that of standard hairbrushes, and it is very convenient for them, besides combing the whiskers themselves, to touch the hair under the eyes and comb the dog’s face.
Owners of trimmed breeds of dogs can be recommended special trimming knives (trimming), designed to pluck thin and soft hair.
Professional trimings work smoothly without scratching the skin and without causing inconvenience to the animal and its owner.
